The first entomological training of the COMBAT project took place in Gran Canaria from May 16 to 20, 2022. This workshop was delivered by two entomologists from Intertryp, Marc Desquesnes and Geoffrey Gimonneau, for the benefit of our partners from the University of Las Palmas Gran Canaria (ULPGC). Capacity building was achieved through several sessions alternating theoretical presentations, trapping sessions in the field, laboratory identification of blood-sucking flies and comparison of attraction devices using Latin squares.

Research Training School “Field Techniques for the collection of Triatomines”

From May 1 to 15, the Research Training School “Field Techniques for the Collection of Triatomine Vectors of Chagas Disease” took place. Provided by Etienne Waleckx and Antoine Amblard-Rambert (IRD Intertryp), this training was followed by several researchers and students from the Universidad de Baja California de Mexicali aimed to learn different techniques for trapping forest triatomine bugs (bait traps and lights in particular) and put them into practice in different sites across the Baja California peninsula.

The visit of Valérie Verdier, CEO of the IRD, to the PNLTHA of the Ministry of Health in Conakry, Republic of Guinea on May 23, 2022, was an opportunity to reaffirm the close collaboration between the IRD, via the UMR Intertryp , and the "Programme National de Lutte contre la THA" (sleeping sickness) in Guinea, and to note the great progress already made to achieve the objective of interrupting the transmission of this neglected tropical disease.
